Old Southwest Reno

Old Southwest Reno represents the “Historical” and “Cultural” roots of early Reno, Nevada, where the Old West, meets the early development  of Reno which are graced by magnificent brick and stucco mansions in the “Newlands Manor Mansion” area, to the stately residences that are perched above the Truckee River along the infamous “California Avenue” Mansion Row.  Numerous early political movers and shakers and Casino Magnates have resided in this community since the initial incorporation of the City of Reno, from Senator Francis Newlands, Raymond (Pappy) Smith, and Harold Smith, founders of “Harold’s Club”, William “Bill”  Harrah, “Harrah’s Casino”, William Pennington, “Circus Circus Casino”, Jessie Beck, “Riverside Casino”, Charles Mapes, “Mapes Casino”… etc.  Old Southwest Reno is also home of “Reno High School”, one of the best rated high schools in the region who has graduated numerous successful alumni… such as my three children…!
